Question:
I am currently 8 weeks pregnant, and I have been super sensitive to smells. My biggest concern is my food intake. Some days I dont eat much at all. I dedicately take my materna vitamin with orange juice every morning. But after that there's no guarantee on how much Im consuming. Some days I will eat 2-3 crackers in the morning/afternoon, than maybe a 1/4 chicken with a small bun and a few fries around dinner. I feel like that is not enough, and I've been told that the baby will drain me first before anything. But than my doctor said thats not acceptable and I better start eating. What can I do? When I force myself to eat I start to gag, and I dont wanna throw up. So I just stop. I will eat once a day definatly. but throughout the day I am not intaking the amount of calories I should. I picked up nutrament the other day, and have been drinking 1-2 cans a day. Is that okay? or not? I am concerned about my baby, Could you please let me know what i should be doing. This is my 2nd pregnancy, Im pretty sure the 2nd trimester will be better. Can you suggest anything, Let me know the statistics, If everythings okay, or should i be forcing it down?
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Chantal
Answer:
It appears that you are suffering from NVP and you should be taking the appropriate medications that are prescribed for this condition. When you have it under control, you will be able to eat properly and keep it down. Consult your doctor and call the Motherisk NVP Helpline at 1-800-436-8477.
